Preparing The Off Grid Homestead For A Cozy Winter

The weather is getting colder now as the seasons are turning. I plan to keep the tiny house on wheels nice and cozy this winter, especially when Melanie gets here. This means that I need to have enough fire wood prepared to heat the tiny house.

I spent all day cutting up trees that I had downed last year. I had left them to cure a while. Now that the weather is cooler it is time to cut them into logs.

I am using a chain saw that my Dad gave me last time I was in Michigan. It had no chain on it for some reason so I went to town to get one for it. It is a very light weight and comfortable saw to operate. It has springs to absorb the vibration making it a very nice saw to use all day.

After cutting up all the trees, I gathered up the cured and dry wood into piles for immediate use. The damp logs I split and then stacked in the sun out in front of the tiny house on wheels. The really wet logs I stacked in a pile nearby to sit in the sun to dry out for a while. These had been touching the ground and need some time to dry.

I have a lot of fire wood for this year. I just need to gather it all up in one place now before the snow comes.

I will be working at the fire wood a bit each day from now till the snow falls.
