Working On My Free Pallet Wood Picket Fence

I am continuing the work on my pallet wood picket fence. This fence is necessary to keep the chickens out of my garden when I let them out to free range.

The work is slow going though because I have mostly all damaged pallets. I need to find a source of good pallets in order to make this job go faster.

I have started to use 6 foot long pallets, which are in better shape. But they have larger gaps in between the boards. The longer pallets also make the job go faster by covering half again as much area with each pallet.

I will later fill in the larger gaps with wire so that the chickens cannot just walk through.

I got my way up to the gate of the picket fence before I stopped for the day. The gate is going to take some thinking for me to get done right.

I will use two pallets for the gate. This will allow me enough room to drive a vehicle through as needed. I may one day want to drive the truck through loaded with materials.

The gate will be swinging on the outside ends and meet in the middle with a latch to hold the two together.

A metal rod stuck through the frame of the pallets, in a vertical position will keep the pallet wood gate in place and keep it from swinging.
