Cleaning The Homestead & Building A Porch & Picket Fence
My first project was to clean up in front of the tiny house on wheels and then build a sort of porch/greenhouse using the old greenhouse frame.
I removed the old pallet and cement blocks I had used as a step all winter. Then I raked up an entire wheel barrow load full of leaves and debris which had collected under there.
Next I used more cement blocks to raise the platform up level with the bottom of the tiny house doorway. Then I put the pallet back in place. This is my entry area now.
I freed up the old greenhouse frame from in front of the garden and cleaned it up.
I put the greenhouse frame on my new porch platform. One side will hold shoes and the other side will hold plants.
For now I put a tarp over the shoe side. I plan to put plastic over the entire frame to finish the greenhouse and porch area.
I got a package in the mail from http://www.decoraport.ca containing an ultralight folding stool and a light weight collapsible camp sink. These are going to be great for traveling, camping and hiking this year. I cant wait to try these out. I have often been out in the woods wishing I had some sort of ultralight stool with me to sit on.
Chris and I had a BBQ for lunch with steak and potato wedges on the grill. He was over visiting for the day as I worked. He helped out a bit as well.
I decided to put up some chicken wire running from the garden to the fence that runs out behind the tiny house. I want to fence off the entire garden and area in front of the tiny home to keep chickens out.
Chris helped me set up part of the fence for now before we both ran out of steam.
The next day though I ended up changing my mind and making some pallet wood picket fence sections. I had the idea of making a simple picket fence using pallet wood so I decided to try it out. I made up a few pieces to see how it looks. I do like it very much and have decided to continue on with this idea.
Pallet wood is free for the taking and is heat treated so it is rugged and durable.
Making my pallet wood picket fence is quite simple requiring only two cuts along the entire pallet. One on each side. Then cutting the angles in the top of the boards to give it the picket fence look.
I spent a considerable amount of time out in the woods sorting through my 100 pallets though, looking for good ones to use for my fence.
