Putting Finish On Floor And Discussing Tiny House Details And Measurements
Saturday I started to put shellac on my tiny home floor when a visitor showed up and helped out on the tiny house. He helped me make some serious modifications to my plans.
In the morning I was driving around with my neighbor. He picks up junk people are tossing and I sometimes ride along to see what I can use for my tiny house. He takes scrap metal to the recycling center and I watch for useful stuff.
I found a beautiful Victorian era steamer trunk for only $5. This is a fully metal clad trunk from the turn of the century. I have had this confirmed by two antique shops and the value is estimated at around $200+.
I was so excited to find such a treasure for this price.
I am not yet sure what I will do with it. I can sell it for a nice profit or I can keep it for my tiny home. I am collecting a lot of Victorian style items for my home.
When I got back to the homestead I started to coat the floor of my tiny house on wheels with shellac. Not long after a friend arrived to help out a while and give me some pointers.
He helped me get the house pulled out away from the wood line further so I am out of the trees and further from the insects. This will help me keep bugs out of my home. I hope to put down gravel back there before winter.
I have decided to use 2x6 framing for the roof and this will allow me to have less of a slope, giving me more headroom inside the house. Now I will have 12 foot high front walls and 10 foot high back walls. This gives a lot more room in the loft across the entire width of the house.
I will try to get sheathing on the entire exterior of the home but this depends on finances. Right now it is not possible.
I am sticking with 24 on center framing because this will allow the rafters to sit on the studs, which will sit on the floor joists. All weight will transfer from top to bottom nicely.
I walked around the property and did some measurements on the tiny home, windows and doors.
