'We found a place and defended it. Slept in shifts: 2 hours on watch, 2 hours on sleep. There were a few on duty. When my watch was over, I got 2 hours. I lay on the mattress and heard shells flying right above my head. I felt my body going numb. I couldn't move my hand. My heart was pounding'.
