A’aliyah Moore is a former foster youth and passionate advocate dedicated to shedding light on the injustices within the foster care system. Through her story, A’aliyah brings awareness to the challenges, resilience, and strength of those who have experienced life in foster care. In 2017 my son was medically kidnapped after my husband and I brought him into the hospital with a swollen arm where they x-rayed him and found rib fractures in various stages of healing and a fracture in his arm. They took him into foster care and arrested my husband. In foster care he sustained two more fractures and they still severed our rights and convicted my husband. He is currently serving 12 years in prison for it. (He was convicted in 2019). Our son was able to be placed with my parents after 11 months in foster care (they refused for that long to give him to them because they believed “they must be crazy for supporting people who abuse their child”). After my husband was convicted and our son had to be adopted by my parents I decided to start going to college to get into law school to fight for families like mine. I graduate law school next year and have been doing post-conviction work for the last year of my education. I would be happy and grateful to do an interview for your podcast. I am in Arizona and have been trying for 6 years to get our story out there but the media out here is very opposed to sharing stories like ours because our DCS is state funded and not private.

Connie Reguli could have never imagined her path to activism. It began when she decided to pursue a second career in law, attending night school while juggling two other jobs. Earning her law license at the age of 42 meant she brought a wealth of life experiences with her into the courtroom. Her legal career led her to focus on child welfare and domestic litigation, where she witnessed mistreatment of litigants and corruption among judges as early as 2002. In 2008, she took the initiative to educate state legislators about the process for removing judges. Since then, she has been relentless in her efforts, fighting against child protective services to defend parents' rights. In 2019, however, a corrupt prosecutor, detective, and state's attorney falsely charged her and her client with crimes. A biased judge allowed the charges to proceed, turning Reguli and her client into felons. It took two years to overturn these felonies and have the charges dismissed. Through social media, Reguli has established an advocacy platform called the Family Forward Project, which has over 19,000 members. She actively lobbies in Washington and continues to champion the rights of families. Dr. Adam Lowther is an expert in nuclear deterrence and the nuclear programs of Russia and China. He writes prolifically on nuclear deterrence and threats to the United States. Although the causes of the recent surge of Unaccompanied Children (UCs) is debated, all stakeholders agree one reason migrant children make the perilous journey to the United States is they are “brought into the United States by human trafficking rings.” (As per HHS’ Fact Sheet). In June of 2021, I, Tara Lee Rodas, started reporting incidents of smuggling and suspected child trafficking through HHS Chain-of-Command while I was serving as the Deputy of the Federal Case Management Team (as a volunteer Federal Detailee) at the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site (EIS) in Pomona, California. Between 9/5/2021 and 9/13/2021, I made four protected disclosures: two protected disclosures to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and two protected disclosures to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). I disclosed that smugglers and child traffickers - to include a Sponsor with confirmed Transnational Criminal Organization (TCO) affiliation in the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) Hollywood clique - were exploiting the HHS UC Program and putting vulnerable children at risk. HHS learned I made protected disclosures and swiftly retaliated against me. On 9/15/2021, I was taken off the TCO/MS-13 case. On 9/16/2021, I was directed, in writing, to stop giving detailed case information to law enforcement, to include HHS OIG, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Then, on 9/21/2021, I was falsely accused of violating of the code of conduct, I was threatened with investigation, I was escorted off the EIS [by security and the HHS Federal Field Specialist (FFS)], and my badge was taken. Background I have served in the Inspector General community since 2006. I’m keenly aware there is fraud, waste, and abuse in government programs. However, I was not prepared for the fraud, waste, and abuse I witnessed while serving at the Pomona Fairplex Emergency Intake Site (EIS) in Pomona, California where I volunteered to help place Unaccompanied Children (UCs) with Sponsors in the United States. I saw, firsthand, how lack of transparency, lack of oversight, flawed policies, and deficiencies in HHS’ UC Program resulted in children being placed with suspicious Sponsors and suspected trafficking rings throughout the United States. HHS is delivering vulnerable children into the hands of unsafe Sponsors who are exploiting them. Furthermore, when I volunteered to serve with HHS, I had no idea that children were trafficked through the UC Program by force, fraud, and coercion; for the purpose of involuntary servitude, debt bondage, slavery, commercial sex, and possibly forced organ harvesting. I believed the UC Program was a family reunification program. Learning about the horrors of child trafficking - and learning that HHS knows there is trafficking in the program but doesn’t do more to safeguard vulnerable children - was (and still is) a terrible shock. I submit that HHS has lost control of the UC Program and measures must be taken to safeguard vulnerable, migrant children who come into the custody of HHS. It is unacceptable for a federal government agency to place children in the care of questionable Sponsors, traffickers, and Transnational Criminal Organizations across the country, bypassing state authorities in a secretive manner with limited transparency and inadequate oversight. My name is Keri Gielow and I live in Indian River County Florida. I was born and raised in my hometown of Vero Beach...I went to college in Jacksonville and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I returned to Indian River County and began teaching, met Tracey Scarborough, a Vero Beach local himself, and a successful Landscape Company owner. We were together for over 7 years before we found out I was pregnant and later that next school year (on October 15th, 2010) Leon Mason Scarborough was born. We decided that I would resign from teaching so that I could stay at home with our son. Leon had a great childhood and was a very happy kid. Tracey and I separated when Leon was 5. We began a very lengthy and extremely brutal custody battle. DCF entered our lives on Dec. 16th, 2021. They removed Leon due to "suspicion of child abuse" on my end and gave Leon to his father- since he was the "non-offending parent". Upon the advise of my attorney, I began working the "Case Plan" that they gave me (without their knowledge). By the time I signed the papers in February of 2022, I had already completed the case plan. Leon was returned to me in May of 2022; Tracey and I started the summer with 50/50 custody. In October of 2022, Judge Meadows terminated DCF, Gaudian Ad Litem, and the Court's Jurisdiction over us. Tracey and I continued 50/50 custody until the beginning of November when Tracey and I agreed that I would take Leon for a time. On December 6th, 2022 Craig DeLucca, an "investigator" with DCF called me at my work accusing me of drinking and not taking my son to school that day. I immediately left work, picked Leon up from school, and went back to my house. Craig DeLucca showed up with a Sheriff officer demanding that I give him Leon, because Tracey and I did not go back to Family Court and "finalize" our custody agreement. The next day Craig had an "emergency hearing" and fabricated everything in his little report. No one fact checked a thing and Leon was removed again and sent to live with Tracey's mother. I began to work the case plan for a second time and they still refused to give Leon back to me or his father. Tracey was never accused of any wrong doing, in fact just the opposite...and yet DCF then decided to include Tracey in the second "case plan". Tracey never signed anything. Flash forward to the end of June 2023...I received a phone call from the new Case Manager Alisha Beam informing me that my Ex-mother in law intended to fly to Washington the State with our son. Tracey and I both vehemently vetoed this and on July 6th, 2023 I had a "supervised visit" with Leon. After fishing on our dock, Leon went to the bathroom in our clubhouse, and called Tawyna House (Tracey's longtime girlfriend). I later found out that Leon told his father that he would "run away" before he would get on a plane to Washington with his grandmother. Tracey went to his mother's house that night and Leon (willingly) got into the car with him. The next day (once I found out that Tracey DID in fact get Leon from his mother's) I was asked by the St. Lucie County Sheriff Department if Tracey would harm Leon... to which I said "absolutely NOT, he would NEVER harm a hair on Leon's head"; they also asked if I thought Tracey had any weapons, to which I replied "NO". Even though Tracey's mother and I both were adamant that Leon was with Tracey (they were the only 2 people missing from our family/friends head count) the St. Lucie County Sheriff Department still issued a very unnecessary AND un requested Amber Alert. After being found (unharmed) by his father, DCF emotionally harmed our child by placing him at Jensen Beach Hibiscus House Group Home (basically an orphanage) (3 towns south of us and 2 counties away) for 3 days, before moving him yet again to another orphanage in Palm Beach County (A Place Of Hope)...this time it's over an hour south of us, 5 towns away, 3 counties away, and in another Court District. We have court on the 14th of this month and again on the 22nd. We, as parents, must stand up to this abuse of power, misappropriation of state funds, and mental/emotional abuse of our children. Tracey and I are not alone and unfortunately have joined a large and growing number of people in a club none of us EVER would wish on our worst enemies. Where to begin... the relationship with my children’s mother was toxic and unstable to start with, one reason I stayed for 14 yrs. In October she had what was to be the final and honestly worst “break” of our relationship. To back up just a sec, note that at this time she had a home, a $3500 a week job, a car….everything. She still CHOSE to sign up on Tinder and various other dating sites to cheat on me. Not the first time. So in reiteration in October (the 5th to be exact) she kicked me out of my own home( with the police later backing her up) moved a man she had barely known a week in within hours of my leaving, along with her sister and brother-in-law who my daughter had accused of sexual abuse. October through December the kids spent most of the time with me because she snapped and ran everybody but the man she met off and fled to a different county with him leaving no forwarding address. She lost her car, bought him one with child support payments, quit her job, and left the kids with me until Jan 1st when she found out from her family that Aydian was spilling on the abuse he and his sisters had suffered. This brings us to the court drama, Two weeks after she took the kids back my oldest daughter with her had a meltdown in school and this county saw fit to arrest and press charges against an 11 yr old. She reported her mother to CPS, and an investigation was started. I could tell how it was going to go from the onset. And that is exactly what happened. When the caseworker interviewed my ex and her husband? She claimed she married him December 27th but who knows. The caseworker aided her in flipping the accusations on to me and my family, and proceeded to tell me “oh I know emphatically there's no way she did anything, the neighbors said she didn’t and they would tell me if she did”. Three months of literally being left out of the loop, but being told by my ex she was “ordered” to keep me no contact. With CPS and the court swearing CPS was no longer involved in it, until March 17th 2022, when all are in one room, they say there is an order against me and my family (still no paperwork, no investigation, was told by the GAL she did not have to give me anything). I filed for custody that same day, the following Monday a report is filed in my county, who again with barely investigating or speaking to anyone runs with it, exactly words two diff times “ I know there's no way you could have done anything, you didn’t even have the kids, but I HAVE to cite imminent danger and remove them even though they are already gone. We can’t prove you did it but we can’t prove you didn’t so we have to place you as guilty. April 29th 2022, the court in my county barred me from my children. About a month later my ex’s county took custody of our oldest daughter. I had no say nor was even notified until 2 weeks after she was gone.

Jonathon and I have been married for almost 16 years. We live in a small rural area. We have five children. Our two eldest daughters were recently married. They both live close by with their husbands so thankfully we see them often. Three of our children were adopted through foster care. We had been foster parents here in Georgia on and off for the last thirteen years. I homeschool our three youngest children and love it! We have a small little farm that we enjoy. In 2016 we created a non profit that serves kids/families in Ukraine. We had met a Christian husband and wife who were trying to reach kids/teens in their area with sports, club activities and even Bible classes. We felt called to create a non profit to help them with their ministry. We’ve been respite foster parents for the last several years and this past summer we met two little girls. Arya (3) and Emma (4 months). We only had them for five nights. But it didn’t take long for us to question Emma’s health and question why these two little girls were in foster care. When we contacted the foster parent about our concerns with Emma, she told us that what we were seeing was “abuse” and that Arya and Emma were in foster care because they had been physically abused. Emma had recently had fractures before entering our home and no one has told us this! When we contacted the DFCS case worker about our concerns for Emma, (we also mentioned we didn’t appreciate no one telling us this baby had recent fractures) she told us she was sorry for not giving us more information on Emma’s health and they were seeking more medical evaluations for her..it was a very different answer than the foster parent had given me. I decided to look for the girls’ parents on social media. And what I found was shocking. They were pleading for help because they had taken their infant daughter to the pediatrician when they noticed she had a swollen leg. She was 12weeks. Not crying and had no bruising. They were also concerned that her skull seemed soft. They took her to their pediatrician, that doctor sent them to CHOA for X-rays. Rib fractures healing in multiple stages and a leg lesion was found on the X-rays taken. From there the family was almost immediately accused of abusing Emma instead of running the tests the parents asked for. Parents were questioned by child abuse pediatricians, law enforcement and social workers. The girls were placed with their maternal aunt and uncle. And the mother Tuckey, was soon arrested and charged with aggravated battery and child abuse. Weeks later, Emma woke up with rash like bruises on her leg. DFCS told the aunt and uncle to bring Emma into CHOA. The aunt and uncle were then verbally accused of either abusing Emma or allowing the mom to come abuse Emma. The girls were placed into foster care. Once we learned all of this and realized DFCS was intentionally keeping the parents from doctor appointments and test results we decided to attend their three day trial. We went, we learned that DFCS had zero evidence on this family. The case worker and the DFCS attorney were SO RUDE to this family. They also lied at court more than once. We since decided to fully support them in their efforts to get their children back. DFCS has decided to have a non reunification plan. They want to terminate the parents’ rights. They closed our foster home. They continue to lie, and hide things from the family. They refuse to put the girls into one of the many blood relative or fictive kin homes that Matt and Tuckey have provided. In December Matt Hernandez was indicted and charged with aggravated battery and child abuse. It’s been a lot of lying and policy violating by DFCS employees. Horrible communication from the department. And zero support to the family. Court is Friday the 19th.

In 2017 my son was medically kidnapped after my husband and I brought him into the hospital with a swollen arm where they x-rayed him and found rib fractures in various stages of healing and a fracture in his arm. They took him into foster care and arrested my husband. In foster care he sustained two more fractures and they still severed our rights and convicted my husband. He is currently serving 12 years in prison for it. (He was convicted in 2019). Our son was able to be placed with my parents after 11 months in foster care (they refused for that long to give him to them because they believed “they must be crazy for supporting people who abuse their child”). After my husband was convicted and our son had to be adopted by my parents I decided to start going to college to get into law school to fight for families like mine. I graduate law school next year and have been doing post-conviction work for the last year of my education.

Lakievia “Lucky” Johnson is a Foster Care Alumni, Non-Custodial Parent, and Trafficking Survivor. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Lakievia initially entered the foster care system at the age of 11. After being returned to family for a brief period of time, she would end up back in the foster care system at the age of 14 and would remain there until she aged out at the age of 18. While in a foster home, at the age of 16, Lakievia was sold for sex by the foster parent she was living with at the time. Because of safety issues, Lakievia did not report the assault until after she turned 18 years old. Even then, however, her police reports were swept under the rug, she was shamed, the benefits she received as a Foster Care Alumni and college student in the State of Georgia were stripped from her, and after reporting the assault to a judge during a post-divorce custody dispute, in 2019, custody of her children was taken from her, given to a third party, and, she was banned from seeing and speaking to her two daughters. In 2024, after years of alienation from her children, Lakievia went back to court for her youngest daughter because she was contacted by her oldest daughter days after she turned 18. Once again, Lakievia was retaliated against and humiliated by the judge on her case, but this time, Lakievia was knowledgeable about her rights to file a Motion for Reconsideration and appeal, and she filed both on her own. Having had a total of four attorneys and being forced to represent herself because of a lack of support over the years, Lakievia is representing herself again as a Pro Se Appellant, and she is awaiting a judgment from the Georgia Court of Appeals. Also, as a doctoral student at the backend of her program, Lakievia has presented research on the foster care system. She is also an advocate for Foster Children and Foster Care Alumni and an Anti-Human Trafficking Activist. Furthermore, Lakievia is a certified Project Management Professional who uses her project management skills and training to advance the anti-trafficking missions of organizations like Rahab’s Daughters and Rescue the Fosters.

Connie Reguli could have never imagined her path to activism. It began when she decided to pursue a second career in law, attending night school while juggling two other jobs. Earning her law license at the age of 42 meant she brought a wealth of life experiences with her into the courtroom. Her legal career led her to focus on child welfare and domestic litigation, where she witnessed mistreatment of litigants and corruption among judges as early as 2002. In 2008, she took the initiative to educate state legislators about the process for removing judges. Since then, she has been relentless in her efforts, fighting against child protective services to defend parents' rights. In 2019, however, a corrupt prosecutor, detective, and state's attorney falsely charged her and her client with crimes. A biased judge allowed the charges to proceed, turning Reguli and her client into felons. It took two years to overturn these felonies and have the charges dismissed. Building a Movement and Rebuilding Lives Sharmila (Sam) Wijeyakumar, a survivor of human trafficking, co-founded Rahab’s Daughters in 2013 alongside her family. Having lived the experience of being a human trafficking victim, Sam set out to create an organization that offers support to survivors in a variety of ways, all while working to put an end to human trafficking. Together with her family and an army of dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners, Rahab’s Daughters has grown into an effective and dynamic organization that aims to attack the problem from all sides. Our supporters have enabled us to offer support and resources to over 1,500 survivors through our rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Headquartered in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit also works to actively spread awareness about human trafficking by engaging community members in our prevention and awareness programs. Background & How My Case Began My name is Mykel Cheyen Ray, and I am a mother of three beautiful children—Isaac (10), Leticia (6), and Kimori (4). My story begins in a place of survival. I am a survivor of domestic violence and human trafficking at the hands of my oldest son’s father, Isaac. I fought hard to escape that life and build a future where my children could grow up safe, loved, and free. In 2020, DCFS took my children, citing concerns that I had neglected their safety. However, the situation was far more complex. My son Isaac had unexplained marks and scars on him while he was going between my home and his father’s. I reported these concerns to DCFS, hoping they would protect my son, but instead, they turned it against me, questioning why I hadn’t taken him to the hospital instead. At the time, I truly believed that making a report to DCFS was the right course of action. From January to April 2020, I was in contact with DCFS investigator Andrew Anderson, asking for help and guidance, but he failed to follow up properly. Instead of investigating my son’s father, DCFS took my children. When I went to court, my public defender at the time, Michael Parker, pressured me into stipulating my rights—something I did not understand. I was pregnant, scared, and felt forced into agreeing to things without a fair hearing. Everything I’ve Done to Get My Children Back For almost five years, I have done everything the system has asked of me—and more. I have taken every class, completed every evaluation, and worked tirelessly to prove my fitness as a mother. Here is everything I have completed: • Parenting Classes (2020) • Parent Coaching (2021, again in April 2024, and a third time in August 2024) • Two Domestic Violence Classes • Two Psychiatric Evaluations (both concluded that no medication was necessary and that I have a high level of resilience) • Parent Capacity Assessment • Psychological Assessment • Consistent Individual Therapy • Passed ALL random drug tests • Maintained a job despite my disability (I broke my ankle in August 2023, had surgery with a plate and 11 screws, and still deal with pain/swelling) • Built a strong support system including state representatives, my church, and multiple professionals who have written character witness statements in my favor I also have two powerful character witness statements: 1. Jennifer Ebner, LaSalle County Clerk, who has seen my love and dedication as a mother firsthand. 2. Beth Findley Smith, a CASA, who observed my visits and described my strong bond with my daughter, Leticia, and my attentiveness as a parent. Despite doing everything required and more, DCFS and Easterseals continue to push for the termination of my parental rights—even though Camelot (the agency overseeing Isaac) has no concerns and fully supports the reunification of ALL my children. The System’s Retaliation Against Me Throughout this fight, I have faced retaliation for advocating for my children. • In 2022, my unsupervised visits with Leticia were taken away after I called the hotline on her foster home due to suspected abuse. Instead of investigating the foster home, Easterseals punished me. • Caseworker Luka falsely claimed that I treat my son Isaac differently because of his father—which is absolutely untrue. I love and treat all my children equally, adjusting only for their individual needs. • They accused me of calling my son “slow,” which is a complete lie—I cherish and celebrate my children just as they are. • The behavioral specialist, Colette Gillis, has shown clear bias against me, often displaying hostility in visits. • One behavioral report claims I called everyone ‘evil,’ which is false—I was simply praying with my daughter after a timeout. I believe in freedom of speech and religion, and this should never have been used against me. How This Has Affected My Family The last five years have been excruciating for my children and me. • Every visit, my children ask to come home—especially my daughter, Leticia. • My daughter’s foster parent threatened to change her name and information to prevent future contact with me. • I am watching my babies grow up in separate homes when they should be together, loved, and safe in their mother’s arms. This system is meant to protect families, but instead, it has ripped mine apart without justification. Why I Am Speaking Out I am done being silent. God is opening doors, and I will walk through them. I refuse to let the system erase me as my children’s mother. I will continue to fight, pray, and speak the truth until justice is served and my babies are back where they belong. Connie Reguli could have never imagined her path to activism. It began when she decided to pursue a second career in law, attending night school while juggling two other jobs. Robert Jones I was born in 1980 to a single 16-year-old mom. Who had some issues of her own. At 7 years old I was removed from my mother and went into CPS "care". Pretty much from that point forward. Never spent a year in a placement. Suffered every type of abuse you can think of from mental abuse to ritualistic abuse and everything in between. A caseworker and a set of foster parents went to prison for abusing me but still was called a liar if I ever reported it. I Found it an effective way to move is to break their stuff. I got into the criminal life that kind of became my family because nobody else cared. I was tried as an adult at 16 convicted at 17 and turned 18 in a state correctional facility. Upon release I got married going for 26 years now and I've had six kids three grandchildren. Completed my probation without any violations. For several years the system left me alone. December 19th of 2014 I received a call that my sister's kids had been taken into custody by CPS. I went to the office where they convinced me I had to become a licensed foster care provider in order to get them. I believed them and me and my wife became licensed foster parents. Cps denied us custody of my nieces and nephew because we reported sexual abuse in the foster home (I have that on video). I appealed it as many times as I could. Previous to this I tried to stay away from the system and never attended a real protest. I attended a protest in Burns Oregon that went international, my first protest. There I learned that most protesters aren't crazy and wanting war with the government or free stuff. I searched my local area for help from an activist but I found none. So although I don't think I'm the best person for the job since there was nobody, I was better than what was available so I started helping out people. Now I have a loose Network that spans Idaho and even into other states. Most of the cases I have helped out with have not went public but a few of the bigger ones that have is "bring Brandon home" and the "baby Cyrus case." They have tried to intimidate me. AJ was born May 7, 2000. He was the 4th of 5 kids. He was 2 mos preemie and quite jaundiced, but he came through all of that well. When he was 3, we started noticing weird quirks. It looked like OCD at first... lining up his little cars from little to big, having to step on a certain spot before he came in the house but nothing too alarming. When he was 4 and in headstart, the director noticed him too. He told us that his best guess would be ADHD or autism. I remember telling him it couldn't be autism because AJ could talk.... little did I know. During the summer, AJ started developing weird behaviors associated with toileting (he'd been potty trained since the age of 2 1/2) I called the director up and told him what was going on and he said... it's autism and that they sometimes fixated on those areas. He also suggested that we get him tested. At the age of 5, his diagnosis came back. He had ADHD and autism (PDD-NOS). Pervasive developmental disability - not otherwise specified. At this point in his life, a person could tell. He looped movies. His speech pattern also mimicked looping, starting a sentence, getting distracted, then restarting the sentence. He also had a high propensity of trying to escape the house. Nothing too unmanageable. Between the ages of 7-12, he acted like most other boys at home. At school was a different issue. He was restless and unmanageable. They called a lot. At the age of 10, he started having seizures requiring him to be put on depakote. At that time I spoke with his neurologist about the school calls and after much thought agreed for him to try focalin for the ADHD. It was a medicine that wouldn't accumulate like Adderall and ridalin and I could still manage him at home, so he only took it on weekdays for school. Around the age of 12, we started seeing more behaviors from him. His frustration level would get to a point of hours long meltdowns. He was more aggressive verbally and emotionally, so they increased his focalin and added resperdone. Eventually guanfenocin was added as well. This stayed like this until he was 16. Between his 15th and 16th year, he had grown 6 inches. His meds hadn't been adjusted since he was 12. His behavior was erratic. He'd have meltdowns and scream, "why did God make me like this?" He hated it. He was also a popular target for kids in and out of school. He'd often get in trouble for HIS reaction to kids' bullying. He was impressionable and a follower and kids would talk him into doing things that he wouldn't have normally done, just so he could have a friend. At 16, his psychiatrist ordered him into the state hospital for adolescents. He got his meds adjusted at that time. While there, we received word from his insurance that he was FINALLY approved for PRTF. He stayed in the PRTF for over a month. Upon his release they mandated that we receive respite care for AJ. His case manager told them it would happen and it never did. At 17, AJ started spiralling again. His therapist and another agency were recommending out of home placement for his own safety. We called the only place available in our city and were told that to have him placed there, he would need to be a ward of the state, a foster child or we would need a DCF referral. We called DCF and did intake over the phone. We listed his diagnoses and MEDS. Enter St. Francis ministries (formerly St Francis community solutions). They started coming out weekly. They implied they were looking for somewhere more suitable for AJ. Every week they'd come out and just shoot the breeze with AJ. When school started back up, in his 2nd week of his senior year, on Wed the 5th of September, he came home acting out of character. I actually thought he might be drunk. He didn't smell of alcohol. On Thursday the 8th, he had his therapy appointment and St Francis came out right after that. His therapist and I agreed that I would drug test him when we got home and I would report negative findings to her and to St Francis. When we got home, I tested him, he tested positive for oxycontin. I broke down crying and yelling and asked him where he got it. He asked me what it was. He didn't even know what he took. St Francis came in the middle of all of this and I BEGGED THEM to please take him before something bad happened. On their way out the door they stated, "he just told us he wouldn't do it again". They left. The next morning I went to wake AJ up for school and he never woke up again. We obtained my son's records 6-7 most after he died and at that time St Francis was still billing on us. They billed for attending his memorial service and they weren't there AND they wrote down the wrong time. They've sat in front of our house to the point we had to get a cease and desist order on them. There's so much fraud, deceit, and misrepresentation in his records, it's alarming. We're now, for 2 years, testifying in front of the joint committee on child welfare and oversight. There's NO ACCOUNTABILITY anywhere.

I am a mom of two boys that are six years apart. As a child of a former pediatric respiratory therapist, I was an avid believer in pediatric medicine specifically children’s healthcare Atlanta. After advocating for my youngest son, I found myself a victim of lies, accusations, and false reports. Unfortunately, my case was only resolved after four attorneys, a $30,000 deposit to go to trial, and over $100,000 and three years later. I missed major milestones for both of my children that will never be given back. I am now a God-fearing woman and understand that everything happens for a reason, and I am still on that journey of discovering what my purpose is. And I will not stop until I figure it out.

Jody Williams was recruited to be a madam in the late 1970's. Her recruiters owned a nightclub and were related to Richard Pryor. References to this club were shown in the series "I'm Dying Up Here" on Showtime and also on the FX series "Snowfall". Jody had an inside look of the elite that ruled Hollywood. While this was taking place in LA during the late 1970's and the early 1980's, she had a front row seat to Iran Contra. The CIA was responsible for the cocaine epidemic and all while the AIDS virus had taken hold. However, gang members were blamed for it by the mainstream media. Faced with probation or parole and told she couldn't talk to anyone connected to that scene, Jody created the 12 step program called "Prostitutes Anonymous". The phone-in hotline has received over 500,000 calls since 1987! This has allowed her a continuing view into the world of sex trafficking. Ironically, these systems are supposedly protecting women and children. When the deal was struck to not prosecute Jeffrey Epstein, Jody was on the front lines of American sex trafficking. Suddenly, the walls came down and she was shut out of the systems she had created to help trafficked victims. Anyone associated with her found themselves fired or smeared. The Trafficking Act was passed in 2000. Prior to this legislation, anyone under the age of 18 that was suspected of being a prostitute was considered a criminal. This meant that anyone receiving federal funds could not be found "harboring a criminal". The juvenile detention and foster care systems refused to help these targeted victims until this official "victim" status was granted to them. Only after this status were they being "admitted for help". Jody began to see everything change and felt that the traffickers were in control of the systems or were replaced by people that would do as they were told. Imagine a scenario where Pablo Escobar becomes a congressman and starts writing laws to prevent drug traffickers from being extradited to the USA and then builds his own prison! Lakievia “Lucky” Johnson is a Foster Care Alumni, Non-Custodial Parent, and Trafficking Survivor. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Lakievia initially entered the foster care system at the age of 11. After being returned to family for a brief period of time, she would end up back in the foster care system at the age of 14 and would remain there until she aged out at the age of 18. While in a foster home, at the age of 16, Lakievia was sold for sex by the foster parent she was living with at the time. Because of safety issues, Lakievia did not report the assault until after she turned 18 years old. Even then, however, her police reports were swept under the rug, she was shamed, the benefits she received as a Foster Care Alumni and college student in the State of Georgia were stripped from her, and after reporting the assault to a judge during a post-divorce custody dispute, in 2019, custody of her children was taken from her, given to a third party, and, she was banned from seeing and speaking to her two daughters. In 2024, after years of alienation from her children, Lakievia went back to court for her youngest daughter because she was contacted by her oldest daughter days after she turned 18. Once again, Lakievia was retaliated against and humiliated by the judge on her case, but this time, Lakievia was knowledgeable about her rights to file a Motion for Reconsideration and appeal, and she filed both on her own. Having had a total of four attorneys and being forced to represent herself because of a lack of support over the years, Lakievia is representing herself again as a Pro Se Appellant, and she is awaiting a judgment from the Georgia Court of Appeals. Also, as a doctoral student at the backend of her program, Lakievia has presented research on the foster care system. My name is Alexandra Smith. I am 30 years old. I was in the foster care system in Fort Smith Arkansas Sebastian County from the age of 7 to 18 years old. Was severely medicated, institutionalized, and abused in the system. Aged out of the system and went back to my bio mother. Had several hospitalizations including in state facilities until 20. Ended up battling with chronic homeless due to mental illness and domestic violence. Had a baby at 26. Suffered from Post Partum Depression after, DCS in St. Joseph County South Bend Indiana. Son was removed at 4 days. I was asking for help with my mental illness and homelessness. Got an apartment 4 months in the Chins case. Completed classes and was involved in my own services. Reunification was impossible. There was a lot of difficulty with DCS. Perjured testimony, falsified court orders, intimidation of witnesses and advocates. I went to higher ups, State Reps, Senators, Local DCS managers, DCS liaison Angel Owens in the governor office, regional manager Kathryn Stephenson, and even reached out to the DCS director at the time Terry Stigdon and her assistant Kelly. No luck. Eventually I had a breakdown. Left everything I had and spiraled. Once I tried to pick it up, it was too late. I lost my rights. My son was gone. And ready to be adopted. I am now in therapy. Working. Going to school and trying to live life as best as I can.

Founded and operated by Spike Cohen, You Are The Power is a Membership-based nonprofit whose network has a shared social media reach of over 50 million, and a working relationship with activists and organizations in all 50 states. The Mission of YATP is to spread, and act on, the Principle of Human Respect. We accomplish this through: Building Community Roots – We find people who are in need, activate our Members to organize that community around their cause, and demonstrate that we care, our solutions work, and they are welcome to join us to accomplish even more. Network Effect – We grow and nurture a network of engaged and likeminded activists, train them on best practices for organizing and winning on causes, and communicate the principle behind why our solutions work: that people flourish without coercion, force or theft. Education and Action – For both our Members and the general public, we use these causes and our network as an opportunity to educate them about the foundational Principle of Human Respect, and give them a direct call to action to implement this Principle into practice. Our purpose is to use localized, grassroots, single-issue activism to empower people to work together to set our communities free, restore individual rights, and take the power away from government and put it back in your hands, where it belongs. We are a non-partisan network of activists, community leaders, and candidates for elected office who identify problems and work to implement solutions.

Kate Kauffman is a working single mother of three boys and a proud Georgia native. Born and raised in Gwinnett County, she graduated from Brookwood High School and later from Clayton State University, where she was a scholarship athlete. A survivor of domestic violence, Kate recently finalized her divorce after a long and difficult journey toward freedom and healing. Along the way, she’s faced the harsh realities of navigating complex legal systems and the continued trauma of post-separation abuse. Today, she’s using her voice to raise awareness, advocate for change, and empower other survivors to recognize the signs of abuse, reclaim their strength, and rebuild their lives with hope and purpose.
