Before Cardi B would become one of the most successful female emcees of recent memory and create one of hip-hop’s most prominent families alongside her husband and fellow rapper, Offset -- she’d be born Belcalis Almanzar on October 11th, 1992, in the New York City borough of the Bronx. Living out of the Highbridge neighborhood, Cardi grew up in a household that was chockful of laughter and family members, especially cousins. Raised by a Dominican father with a healthy sense of humor and a Trinidadian mother that could oftentimes be as serious as a heart attack, Cardi spent a whole lot of her time at her paternal grandmother’s house in Washington Heights, which she claims is one of the main reasons that she has such a thick-accent to this very day. But just because she was spending so much time around her grandmother, doesn’t mean Cardi wouldn’t get up to no good. As a teenager she joined the Bloods while attending Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and Technology – a small specialty school in New York City.
