Hey guys, today, let's go and try to find a specific strange rock in the ancient city of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. I call this the 'End Of The World Rock' and some people believe that if this Rock Falls Down, the World will End. Anuradhapura is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, archeologists say the city's history goes back to 10th Century B.C, and Sri Lanka is well known for its ancient mysteries. In my previous video, I showed you the Hindu belief about the end of the world, but what do Buddhists believe about the end of the world?
Let us go into this fascinating Buddhist temple and see if we can find more. Look at this huge reclining Buddha, he looks so divine. Look Behind him, there are many monks worshiping him as a God. His pillow is really fancy, it is a cylinder with a Chakra or lotus patterns, it looks like a technical design. Was it a pillow or some kind of a machine, like an arc reactor? What's even more strange, look at that strange thing coming out of his head. It is an elongated thing with 5 curved ends. What is that? Is this some advanced device or is there a simpler explanation for this? And then, look at the person standing right next to him. You don't see it on his head, but look at the 2 Buddha statues on the left side, both these statues have that strange pointy device on their heads. And the normal guy at the end also does not have it. Look at the guys painted on the wall, none of them have that pointed device on their heads. Do you know that many ancient Buddha statues in Asia show him with this elongated thing on his head? What is the secret behind this?
I got blessed by this Buddhist Monk in the temple, he tied a sacred thread on my wrist. It is a common ritual in Buddhist sites. Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism are three great ancient religions which share the same cultural aspects. They have some minor differences, but they come from the same root. Like Hindus, Buddhists also believe that the world will End and a God called Maitreya will arrive on the earth to destroy all evil. Who is this Maitreya? He will be an avatar of Buddha himself. This is a very similar story to Hinduism which says that Kalki, who is an avatar of Vishnu will arrive during the end of the world.
But Sri Lankan Buddhists give some interesting details about how Maitreya will arrive on earth. They say that, right now, Maitreya lives in a planet called Tushita and he will travel from that planet and reach the earth when the human beings become evil. But how will he do this interstellar travel? Some believe that this carving in Anuradhapura is a stargate, and it is the portal through which Maitreya could arrive. Not only that, they also believe that many Buddhist monks from earth also traveled to Tushita, to his planet by doing Sadhana or meditation in front of this stargate.
But how can we find out when the end of the world is near? There is a Rock in Anuradhapura which can foretell the end of the world. You can see stairs set up going between 2 giant rocks on either side, and on top, there is a Gigantic granite rock, it has a unique shape, which is standing with very little support on both sides. How is it even standing for so many centuries without falling down? I feel strange walking under this rock, it feels like it could drop on me and crush me as I walk under it. From this side, you can see a Buddhist Stupa and some ancient structures, and this is actually one of the entrances to this Ancient Buddhist Site. It looks like the top of a mushroom head from this side. Some people will say this is a natural formation, but it appears to have some tool marks, you can see some it has been shaved off. And then you can see this line, carved on both the rock on the right side as well as the supporting structure on the left side as well. This means that this is not natural, the giant rock was lifted up and placed here.
