This is a new class of voltage-controlled electrochemical actuators that operate at low voltage (200 microvolts), low power (10 nanometers), and are fully compatible with silicon processing.

Prototyping sub-hundred micrometer walking robots allows over a million robots to be produced on a four-inch wafer. These results are a step toward being able to mass-produce functional silicon-based robots that are too small to be recognized by the naked eye.
