Woke up early one summers day
In a foreign land so far away
I remember crying out your name
From a strangers car, was I to blame?

For the shouts in the parlour room
Or the crash of china out of view
The tear of your favourite lace
As the tears rolled down your face
I wondered why

Left me stranded in the pouring rain

Another day drifted by
Wondered when you’d arrive
An engine roared outside
It was just a bread truck driving by

I felt the cold winds start to blow
As a shadow crossed my soul
I wipe the salt from my eyes
I take a breath
I wonder why

Another month rolled on by
Felt a little quieter inside
Made friends with the mail man
No letter today from Uncle Sam

Christmas just a month away
Couldn’t wait to see you that day
Everyone got a Christmas card
Guess they were out where you are

What happened to my sisters three
They died in a fire on New Years Eve

Crossed her fingers

Birthday just a week away
Balloons and my favourite cake
A wish “You'd arrive”
Candles were blown by the wind
I wondered why

I took my favourite stick
Off to the circus in a fit
Soda pop, potato chips
That's all I needed for this trip
