5 Ways to Boost Morning Energy Without Caffeine
In this video, I review my top strategies to feel alive and awake in the morning without caffeine.
1) Get Moving: Movement increases circulation, releases hormones such as cortisol and norepinephrine that increase wakefulness and alertness. You can simply go out and take a walk or you can do a workout if you like.
2) Sun Exposure: Early morning sun in the eyes and on the skin helps set your circadian rhythm to understand that it is daytime and stimulates the mitochondria within the cells to produce more cellular energy. Early morning sunshine has also been shown to help improve sleep quality at night.
3) Grounding: Getting your bare feet connected and grounded on the Earth in the morning (or anytime during the day) provides free electrons that act as antioxidants to help support energy, immunity and lower levels of inflammation. It is a great practice to start your day with 5-10 minutes of grounding on your front lawn.
4) Cold Exposure: Getting cold early in the day will stimulate dopamine, cortisol, norepinephrine and endorphins to give you great wakefulness, alertness, energy and mental clarity and the endorphins also act to block pain and increase feelings of joy and euphoria. I do this with a cold shower for about 2-3 mins each day.
5) Hydration: Start your day by drinking 16-32 oz of water within the first hour to 90 mins of waking and it will help flush your system and move your bowels. This reduces your toxic and microbial load and takes stress off of your mitochondria which increases your energy levels and mental clarity.
