Budget-Friendly 4K Video Recording In the Palm of Your Hand?

In this episode, we unbox and test the Kuhaimi 4K Capture Device, a Budget-Friendly 4K Video capture device that can fit In the Palm of Your Hand.

A common question that I get is how to record footage from video game systems to upload to the web. There are so many different options out there, it can get really confusing really fast. And if you want to upload 4K content, as more and more creators are doing, how can you do that without breaking the bank? Well, we've been testing out a solution that so far has worked very well.

Simplicity is key on the Kuhaimi capture device, it has your HDMI in and outports, a USB-C port to connect to your computer, and 3.5 mm ports for game audio and monitor. It is truly plug-and-play and set up only takes a few moments. It works with major recording and streaming software such as OBS and Streamlabs. You will need to go into your settings to configure it for optimum performance, but thankfully the instruction manual includes recommendations right in it.

To get connected with our setup, we needed to get a bit creative. See, our HDMI Switch doesn't pass through 4K, it maxes out at 1080P. So what I did was connect my 4K source to the input on the Kuhaimi capture device, this way I knew I had a clean 4K signal. From here I fed the output into my Switch box, which then fed content to my TV and Gaming monitor. it might sound convoluted but it works. We have been using this more and more lately for our video game recordings and have been extremely pleased with the results. The quality of the video and the audio work great together, and you can't overstate the ease of configuration.

I started my testing with the Xbox Series S and one of my favorite series, F1 2022 which just hit Gamepass. As this is simulation-based, the realism of the world matters. I'm only 3 races into my career starting in F2 right now, and I have to say the footage looked super crisp and sharp on the recording. The pass-through footage for playing was great as well!

Up next was the Lego Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga which also recently hit Gamepass. I noticed the black levels looked pretty good coming through this, other capture devices have suffered from poor black levels. But again, this recorded the audio and visuals beautifully.

From here I swapped over to my PlayStation 5 and seriously the best game on the platform, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart. I've streamed and captured this with other devices in the past, and the Kuhaimi did a fantastic job with this footage. This is such a beautiful game that you can't help but fall in love with the characters, the story, and the worlds. I also played some WWE2K22 (Not shown for music copyright reasons), Gran Tourismo 7, and Crash Bandicoot 4, all of which looked fantastic.

I finished up my testing with the PlayStation 3. Why? Because the PS3 has some very, VERY big issues with capturing footage, specifically due to HDCP in the system. Well, I am thrilled to tell you that the Kuhaimi 4K Capture Device handles the PS3 like a champ, and there is no need to throw a separate splitter in-line to strip out HDCP protection.

Should You Buy One?
I've been capturing and recording footage with this for some time, and I will say I've been pretty happy with the results.
