Speaker McCarthy Cracks Down on Crime
The media loves to talk about how divided Washington is. It makes for good TV.
But when Republicans and Democrats come together to do something positive, you deserve to know about that too.
Rising crime has affected nearly every community in America, and in Washington, DC, things have really gotten out of control.
According to DC’s Chief of Police, the average homicide suspect in DC has been arrested 11 times prior to committing murder.
11 times!
So when the DC City Council passed a soft-on-crime law to reduce penalties and let criminals out of jail, Congress passed a resolution to overturn it.
I've signed it and sent it to the President, who has said publicly he would sign it too.
Public safety isn’t about politics.
Carjackers don’t ask your political party before they beat you up and steal your wheels.
When you visit your capital, you should feel safe.
And the law enforcement officers working day and night should know that as Speaker, I will always back the blue.
