A Tribute to Sophie - One Dogs Life

Sophie was a bull mastiff who came into our lives in 2009. We adopted her from Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue in Tehachapi, California, where she had been surrendered by an Airman at Edwards Air Force Base who’d just been re-deployed to Afghanistan and wasn’t able to keep her.

For the next 14 years she was a part of our family. Each week I made her homemade dogfood from ground turkey, veggies and brown rice, took her on daily walks and played with her till we were both exhausted. She was an indoor dog who never spent one night outside. We loved her and miss her more than words can express.

She lived almost twice as long as most giant breeds and brought us both great happiness. However toward the end of 2022 she began to have trouble getting up and walking was a chore for her. She developed kidney issues and we knew the time to let her go was drawing near.

On March 13th 2023 at 3:30 pm with a vet in attendance, Sophie passed away quietly at home with my wife and me by her side.

While the pain of her passing is almost more than we can bare, I wouldn't trade the 14 years we spent with her for anything in the world.

Her unconditional love was a gift from God and the joy she brought us far outweighs the pain of her loss.
