In late 2019, Canadian emo-rapper Powfu discovered Bea’s song “Coffee” and wound up looping the hook into his own downbeat tune titled “Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head)”. Soon after its release, Powfu’s song became a massive hit on TikTok where it provided the background sound to countless videos of users confessing their secret love to unknown crushes. In fact, the meme became so prevalent that it was used 10 billion times on TikTok between February and May of 2020 alone! Then, by June of that year, the song popped up in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial. While Bea might not have been able to capitalize on that success directly, she earned a ton more exposure by proxy and maximized the moment with the release of her debut studio album, “Fake It Flowers” in October of that year. Boasting singles like “Care”, “Sorry” and “How Was Your Day?”, Bea’s first project was hit with a series of delays throughout its recording process and by the time it dropped, she already felt like she had moved on as an artist. Releasing your debut studio album in the middle of a pandemic is far from ideal, but the time she wound up spending at home with her parents allowed Bea to look inside herself and heal. To assist in the matter, she started experimenting with hallucinogens. That’s right, Bea turned on, tuned in, and dropped out as the saying goes. The end result became “See You Soon” which was inspired by her first ever trip on ‘shrooms.
