BEFORE becoming one of underground hip-hop’s most promising and enterprising stars, the rapper known as MPR Richie Rich was born and raised on the West Side of Detroit city. And while he’s done a pretty phenomenal job of keeping both his government name and birthday under wraps, I can at least tell you this much – “MPR” stands for “Money, Power, and Respect”. Growing up in the Detroit neighborhood of Plymouth – aka, the P Rock – Richie attended Cody High School and regularly found himself surrounded by a number of cut-throat individuals – something that ultimately ingrained this young man with a hustler’s mentality and the desire to be a go-getter. Another motivating factor proved to be his large family. As one of five kids with absent parents, more often than not, MPR Richie Rich would wind-up being the one in charge of caring for his siblings -- meaning he had to make sure they not only always felt supported, but were healthy and well fed. When he wasn’t looking after his family, he’d spend his free time listening to local rap artists. I’m talking local OGs like Big Herk, Trick Trick and others that he idolized simply because they’d made it out of the same city he hoped to one day leave behind himself.
