KATY PERRY CASE - NOTE, I BELIEVE THERE IS AN UPDATE FINDING IN FAVOR OF KATY PERRY ON APPEAL.

A 9-panel jury unanimously agreed that the Katy Perry / Juicy J song "dark horse" infringed on an earlier copyrighted song by Marcus Gray (aka "Flame") in a Central District Courthouse in California (Los Angeles). The infringed song was "Joyful Noise" and it took the case roughly 5 years to work its way through the Courts.

In this case, Defendants argued that Plaintiff cannot monopolize beats, but the jury did not agree.

The case was "bifurcated" (meaning the "liability" phase of the case came first, and next, the jury ruled on damages to award against each of the particular defendants).
