WHAT IS AN ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE ("OSC")

The OSC is something that, as an attorney, you don't really want to get. It usually means you (as a litigant) did something wrong and failed to follow an order, or rule, or meet a deadline. If you get one of these, you have to respond and explain what went wrong and why. This can happen to the best of us, as we say, but something you need to keep your eye on. You certainly do not want to fail to reply to this.

In this example from the Federal Eastern District Court in California, Strike 3 Holdings, LLC, a prolific file of copyright infringement cases across the United States, got hit with $250 sanctions for problems related to a status conference. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
