Why is my privacy policy changing?

In this video Attorney Steve answers the questions why the privacy policies for so many companies are changing right now. It appears to be in response to the European Union ("EU") GDPR - General Data Protection Regulations. Companies that do business globally have to comply with the law or face stiff fines up to 4% of their global revenue.

The law will start to be enforced on May 25, 2018. Certain things like data privacy (encryption), opt-in for email marketing and "the right to be forgotten" will apply. This means you have the right to have your data deleted from these websites, such as twitter and other social media giants.

This comes on the heels of the facebook problem with Cambridge Analytica.
