It may sound like the name of a 50's band but Tommy Meyers a 4-time National Airplane Champion and A great Storyteller and plane designer and builder. In the videos ahead you will hear how Walt Disney help out on the plane, Music videos the planes have starred in, and many names you have read about in history over the years. Great designers like Rutan, and his brother, Goldberg, and competing with them as a kid. Grover C. Loening who was Inducted in 1972 as the Army’s First Civilian Aeronautical Engineer, 1914 yes we go way back.. Young Tommy even went to his estate in Florida with a plane that Mr. Loening marveled over.
His Father, Mr. George Meyers, and Tommy are both huge names in Rc modeling, free flight modeling, and even scale plane building, design, and more. Without prestigious college degrees, Born in 1916 Mr. G. Meyers designed, built, and created under the employment of the US Government, The Blue Angles, he was a Self-taught Engineer of sorts a MASTER SHEET METAL SMITH, and even a Jeweler. A man that was hard to outdo or even keep up with in life or a competitive setting. He even watched Linberg fly into Forest Park at the young age of 11... Wait until you hear this story.. At a time when seeing a plane fly overhead was like winning the lottery. (Did kids think the rapture was underway the 1st time a plane flew by?) Well, Linberg's vision started his love of flight and modeling. The rest is history still in the making... From the stories I hear it saddens me that I was never able to meet this man, Tommy called Dad. Every time Tommy speaks those 3 little letters you can see it in his face, his demeanor, and his voice how much he meant to Tommy and the effect he had on his life.
