I live it. My relative didn't. Drugs were getting bad. I saw it too. I stayed away from it. The beauty in what Mrs Reagan said in the 80s, was it put the responsibility on... them? So they could be pulled down and slandered by the opposite party? No. It put the decision, the responsibility on the INDIVIDUAL. If what she said didn't work,it was because you didn't let it work for YOU. I stayed away from it. You can too. Doesn't matter what era it is. And the stuff today is worse than the addictive mess of yesteryear...
Just DON'T do it.
One thing is for certain, her quote IS memorable. My relative tried to claim SHE was the reason why drugs got out of hand. No. That was the individual. (Yeah, we made fun of it even back then...) but if you go down that road you have no one to blame but yourself, not the second lady of the time... only people that choose victimhood blame others.
