Dr. Justin notes that a diet high in poor fats, excess omega-6s, sugar, grains, and inflammatory foods can negatively impact cholesterol levels. He also explains that triglycerides, which tend to be derived from carbohydrates and sugars, play a significant role in the body's use of cholesterol.
Furthermore, Dr. Justin discusses the effects of meals on energy levels, stating that a healthy meal should ideally provide energy. However, he acknowledges that the size of the meal and its carbohydrate content can contribute to feelings of tiredness. Large meals and high carbohydrate consumption can increase insulin levels and lipogenesis, a fat-storing process that can deplete energy. Additionally, reactive hypoglycemia can cause blood sugar to crash, resulting in tiredness, shakiness, jitteriness, or anxiety. Dr. Justin highlights the importance of consuming balanced meals containing protein, fat, and appropriate amounts of carbohydrates, especially for highly active ones, to maintain energy levels and support overall health.
