Castlevania (Actual N64 Capture) - Carrie Playthrough - Part 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Castlevania for the Nintendo 64. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my Nintendo 64 using an actual Castlevania cartridge. I'm playing through the game on hard mode using Carrie.
Here's my remaining playthrough of this game featuring the second playable character: Carrie Fernandez. Whereas Reinhardt Schneider uses a whip and is a descendent of the Belmonts, Carrie uses homing energy projectiles and is a descendent of Sypha Belnades from Castlevania III.
I first tried Castlevania on the Nintendo 64 at Best Buy shortly after the game came out. Although it seemed interesting, I didn't give the game too much thought and instead focused on other games such as Ocarina of Time.
However, because I started really getting into the Castlevania series around 2000, I decided to buy this game several months or perhaps a year after its release and give it a chance. I found that although the game starts off slow, it picks up speed and really becomes enjoyable about mid way through. The game has great atmosphere and some excellent boss fights. The Castle Center in particular is one of my favorite areas because of the music and the demon bull fight. That boss fight is just so memorable and awesome.
The game definitely has flaws though. The controls are sluggish, the targeting system sucks, and the camera is horrendous. However, if you can get past those problems, it's a fun game. Luckily, the more complete version of this game (Legacy of Darkness) fixed a lot of these problems and included a bunch of new content. There's not much reason to play through this game instead of Legacy of Darkness, but there are some differences in the level designs, and small things like character costumes. Also, I purchased this game before Legacy, which meant that I ended up with both games. So I might as well upload the first title and show the differences from Legacy of Darkness.
In this first part I started a new save file and completed the Forest of Silence area.
Giant Skeleton boss fight - 5:07 & 21:05
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the official N64 S-video cable. I used a Toshiba model D-R550 DVD Recorder to upconvert the N64's native 240p signal to 480i so that the Hauppauge could capture the console's audio/video signal.
I'm using a standard Nintendo 64 controller.
