Why Does Meditation Suck So Bad?

The elephant in the room: Meditation is boring. It can be worse than boring. We can get frustrated, anxious, feel a sense of futility ("What's the point?"), etc.

Meditation sucks because it is purposely waiting. Doing nothing on purpose. Patience comes from the latin root "pati" meaning to suffer. Meditation is a low level of suffering. Patience might be a virtue because suffering can lead to wisdom. Sometimes it doesn't, though, just like sometimes meditation won't work well all the time.

Patience (pati) is suffering because time is suffering. Meditation is purposely meeting with the grim fact that we suffer as a result of time itself. In meditation, we meet with time. As we heal ourselves, we might learn to accept and respect time, so that we have reverence for those moments where we remember that we cannot control it, and so we can use it wisely in our lives.
