Famicom & Famicom Disk System Game Lot Pickups! #YouTube #Shorts
In this #YouTube #Shorts episode, we stop off at Live Action Games in Champaign, IL and check out a lot they just got in of Nintendo Famicom and Famicom Disk system games.
I have mentioned many times in the past how I love collecting for the Famicom and Famicom Disk System. The difference in audio on the FDS games is legit, especially in games like the original Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Castlevania. When Live Action Games got a recent Famicom, Famicom Disk System, and games for both traded in I had to swing by and do some checking.
It's great to see them get more and more Disk Games in over the past few months. Not only have I added to my collection, but I have seen others in the area begin to collect for the system and create their own collection. There was only one Famicom Disk System Game in the lot that I didn't have that I wanted, and that was Falsion, but with the other items I was picking up I decided to hold off. For now, at least.
I did end up picking up 3 items, however, 2 cartridges and 1 accessory. Several months ago, I posted a video on how I made an adapter to use NES controllers on my Famicom and Sharp Famicom Twin Turbo. However, back in the day Hudson actually made a controller for the Famicom, called the Joycard MkII, and there happened to be one in this lot. It has a longer controller cord than the stock controllers, and it also appears to have built-in turbo functionality as well. I am excited to use this with my systems in the near future! I may even do a review looking at this controller up-close!!
Next up, I did grab 2 cartridges, neither of which I had. First up is the classic Galaga. Designed to bring the arcade experience home, the NES and and Famicom ports of Galaga are wonderful. The controls are tight, the graphics and audio look and sound great, and overall it is a great version of this game. While not something I'll sink a ton of time into, it's something I'll toss in from time-to-time and play for a few minutes here and there just for something classic and different.
Finally, I had to pick up something a little different, something that I mis-spelled the name in the video here. Wagyan Land 2 looks to be a platformer that has decent music and gameplay. I like the fact that it has one of Namcot's different shaped cartridges, as it's a bit more rounded and taller than a traditional Famicom Cartridge. That's something I really feel like we missed out on here in the states. Except for Zelda, all the NES Cartridges were the same dull grey color. But Famicom games came in all different colors, the box art was awesome, and they just had a better design than what we got. I am looking forward to trying out this game soon.
I'm really excited to see more and more import Famicom items coming into our local stores here. It is a great system to build a library for, and honestly, there are so many games we didn't get here in the States. The Famicom itself and Disk System both look great, and will be a nice addition to someone's collection. I am glad to add 2 more Famicom games to my personal collection, plus the Hudson Famicom Controller was a great surprise indeed! If you're ever in the Central Illinois area, make sure you stop by downtown Champaign and Live Action Games. They have so many different things, oddities, and unique items that are definitely worth a look!
