Judges 1-2 | They Forgot

The book of Judges is the seventh book of the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament. Judges 1-2 is a narrative of the conquest and settlement of the Promised Land by the Israelites, following the death of Joshua.

In Judges 1, the various tribes of Israel are shown attempting to conquer their allotted territories, with varying degrees of success. Some of the tribes succeed in driving out the Canaanites, while others fail. The story also includes accounts of individuals like Caleb, who successfully conquered their territories, and of those who failed, such as the tribe of Benjamin.

In Judges 2, the book takes a more somber tone as it describes how the Israelites quickly turned away from the Lord after the death of Joshua and began worshiping other gods. As a result, God allowed the neighboring nations to oppress them. The Israelites would then cry out to God for help, and God would raise up a judge to deliver them. The cycle of disobedience, oppression, and deliverance would repeat itself throughout the book of Judges.

Overall, Judges 1-2 sets the stage for the rest of the book, introducing the reader to the characters, themes, and conflicts that will dominate the narrative.
