The BRICS countries are working on creating a new form of currency and may present ideas on its development at the organization's upcoming summit in South Africa, State Duma Deputy Chairman Alexander Babakov said on Thursday.

In an interview, Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics Sergey Glazyev and his top economic advisor Dmitry Mityaev discussed a gold- or commodity-based currency that would bypass the US dollar. Both men agreed political will was needed before making any decisions. Russia must update its credit system and "de-offshorize" its economy, according to Glazyev.
