Sony to offer Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation consoles

(Reuters) - Sony Corp said on Thursday it will offer Microsoft Corp’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service on its PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles starting from April 1, 2023.

The move comes after Sony settled a lawsuit with Activision Blizzard Inc, which accused Sony of unfairly blocking its games from being cross-play and cross-progression compatible with other platforms, including Xbox and PC.

As part of the settlement, Sony agreed to pay Activision Blizzard an undisclosed amount of money and to allow Xbox Game Pass on its consoles, according to a joint statement from the companies 1.

Xbox Game Pass will give PlayStation users access to over 100 games from Microsoft and its partners, including Activision Blizzard titles such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo.

The subscription fee will be $9.99 per month for the standard plan, or $14.99 per month for the ultimate plan, which includes Xbox Live Gold and EA Play.

Sony hopes that this move will benefit both PlayStation and Xbox fans, as well as the gaming industry as a whole 3.

“We believe that offering more choices and options to our customers is always a good thing,” said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a statement 3.

“We are excited to welcome Xbox Game Pass to our PlayStation family and to provide our users with a rich and diverse gaming experience.”

Phil Spencer, executive vice president of gaming at Microsoft, said in a statement 3 that he was “thrilled” to partner with Sony and Activision Blizzard to bring Xbox Game Pass to PlayStation consoles.

“This is a historic moment for gaming and for our communities,” he said.

“We are committed to delivering the best games and services to our fans across all devices and platforms.”
