Chinese Election Interference: Former Canadian Intelligence Officers Testify

Ottawa Canada:
House of Commons standing committee on access to information, privacy and ethics heard recommendations for a new national and independent office with powers to investigate and prosecute acts of foreign interference. There were also calls for rapid adoption of counter-interference laws that have already been implemented by Canadian allies such as Australia.

Testimony came from Intelligence experts including former CSIS officials:
Michel Juneau Katsuya and Dan Stanton. Also testimony from witnesses including former Conservative MP Kenny Chiu and former Sing Tao Daily editor Victor Ho, telling MPs that their view is that the Chinese Communist Party has undermined democratic institutions in Canada and has been influencing elections.

This all coming as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's special Rappoteur reviews the sitaution and prepares to make recommendations on whether there should be a full inquiry into foreign government interference into Canada's elections.
