What was the hottest job market in 2022?
The American service sector was resurgent last year after pandemic restrictions closed or severely restricted many tourism and entertainment businesses in 2020 and 2021. Despite recent weakness, the overall labor market is still strong. Unemployment was at 3.6% in February versus 3.4% in January. 2022 saw many people return to the workforce.
Sunbelt cities benefited from a recovery in travel and entertainment which boosted industries like dining, hotels, and music venues.
The hottest job market in 2022 was Nashville, Tennessee, followed by Austin, Texas, and Jacksonville, Florida. The city with the largest amount of added jobs was Las Vegas.
The American South is relatively lower cost of living than the North, especially coastal cities. Affordability has wide appeal to families.
