DRINKING PEACE AT THE WELLSPRING OF JOY

Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. That's a strange statement. You would think that if someone did that, it would tear them in half emotionally. How could Ruby rejoice in one moment and weeping the next and stay sane yourself?

As a pastor, I have often been asked how I kept myself on an even keel dealing with so many different emotions in the church. And sometimes I would have a funeral for a baby and the next day Mary a young couple and the next day bury someone that died a early death. At one house, I am rejoicing; in the next house, I'm weeping.

The answer, of course, is that we are plugged into the life of Christ and draw our joy in our strength from that relationship we have with him. The center of our lives is neither rejoicing or weeping, but it is found in the life of God that resides within us. That life that God has given us is good for any situation we need to face.
Rainy day or sunny day. Good news or bad news. Because our joy is anchored in God, it guarantees that we walk in peace all day long.

Set aside those special times to drink peace of the wellspring of joy.
