Conservatives don't believe in Utopia, they believe in human Depravity.
And this is what makes their politics so common sense, the politics of the common man.
For Conservatives are astonished anything good has come from human history. And the good that has come is worth preserving.
Their entire outlook is mitigation and "conserving" what is good. Conservatives expect bad things to happen. This is why they are less likely to scream like children when bad things happen.
They were expecting trouble.
