The U.S. Air Force has decided not to buy the hypersonic AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) after the prototyping phase due to testing problems, according to the service's acquisition chief, Andrew Hunter. Speaking to lawmakers on the House Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, Hunter said that while the Air Force does not intend to pursue follow-on procurement of ARRW, it will still complete the program's last two all-up round test flights to collect data for future hypersonic programs.

The decision to abandon the ARRW program comes after a March test failed, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall confirmed during a hearing on Tuesday. The Air Force conducted a second test launch of a fully operational prototype ARRW on March 13, but the service did not describe the test as successful, saying it met several objectives. After a previous test launch in December, the Air Force had said all objectives were met.
