Is a man’s value in his assets?

Following recent trends on social media, it appears many think that a man's status, money, cars, houses, etc. weighs more than anything else when determining his value to the society and to a woman. I have personally witnessed this belief put pressure on many men in unhealthy ways; so the question is, is this really how the world views men or its just some social media "mumbo jumbo"?
