BEFORE her untimely death granted her entry into the infamous 27 Club alongside Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison.

Amy Winehouse came from a vibrant Jewish family with a long legacy in jazz entertainment. Her grandmother was a singer and a bit of a sex kitten in her day and Amy wanted to follow suit. She had a lot of gusto for a young lady, but from the start suffered from self-destructive tendencies. [BUH-lee-ME-a] Bulimia, depression, alcoholism, and drug abuse were habits amplified by the hardships of fame, and a turbulent love life. But the same things that destroyed her also inspired some of her greatest music. Although I think it's safe to say, it would of been best if someone did in fact go to rehab. Too soon, I know.

Amy Jade Winehouse was born in north London on September 14th 1983 to jewish parents who came from Russian and Polish immigrants. Her mother Janis was a pharmacist and her father Mitch, a taxi driver. She has an older brother Alex who she enjoyed annoying when they were young.
