The World's Largest Plane: Exploring the Legacy of Ukraine's Antonov An-225

Meet the Antonov An-225, the world's largest aircraft, which has only been produced once and is a first. Antonov An-225, which was developed for the first time to carry the space shuttle Buran belonging to the Soviet Union, was first completed in 1988 and started its flights.

The AN-225 is referred to in Ukrainian as Mriya, which means "Dream." It serves as the inspiration for the Antonov Airlines tagline, "No other name carries greater weight," having set 242 world records to date. The "Antonov An-225 Mriya," which was split in two as a result of the bombardments carried out by Russia in the early days of the Russia-Ukraine war, lies in its hangar at the Antonov aircraft complex in the city of Gostomel, where fierce fighting continued until the last two days.
