In 1993 onderbrak hij de eedaflegging van koning Albert II. Van Rossem riep “Vive la République d’Europe! Vive Lahaut”, geïnspireerd op politicus Julien Lahaut die ook “Vive la République!” had geroepen tijdens de eedaflegging van koning Boudewijn in 1950. Lahaut werd een week na die uitspraak vermoord.
