BEFORE Joey Badass dropped his mixed tape 1999 which earned him a BET Hip Hop Award nomination.
BEFORE he performed on late night with Jimmy Fallon and hooked up with Mac Miller, Ab Soul, ASAP Rocky, Wiz Khliafa.
BEFORE Joey Badass would make the list for 2013 XXL Freshman Class.
BEFORE his video for ‘Survival Tactics’ would light up all over the internet and launch him to fame.

Joey grew up around the corner from the Macy projects in Brooklyn. Initially he had his sights set on becoming an Actor and was enrolled in the drama class at his school. There he met up with his future Pro Era collaborators and they would rap at lunch, in class, after school pretty much all the time. He knew about Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole before 99% of the world did and studied them as they were coming up. He would find success early when a video of him rapping at 15 would catch the attention of Jonny Shipes from Cinematic Music Group.

Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott was born on January 20, 1995 in Brooklyn New York. His family originated from St. Lucia on his mother's side and Jamaican on his father's side and Jo-Vaughn is the first in his family born in America.

He was born in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York City, New York. He was raised in Bed-Stuy and attended the Edward R. Murrow High School.

Joey took an interest in literature and English at a young age and would write poetry and songs starting at the age of 11.

He was enrolled at Edward R. Murrow to study acting and although he enjoyed the rapping and would get more and more involved each year of high school, he didn’t think of it as his future career.
