Associate Professor Katina Michael delivers a powerful argument that we are becoming enslaved by our technology.

Her surprising stand for the affirmative, in the IQ2 debate "Are we becoming enslaved by our technology?" came unexpected, with Michael being an Associate Professor in the School of Information Systems and Technology at the University of Wollongong.

Dr Katina Michael holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) and her many honors & awards arguably proving her as an authority regarding socio-ethical implications of emerging technologies. Michael has written and edited five books, guest edited numerous special issue journals on themes related to radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags, supply chain management, location-based services, innovation and surveillance/uberveillance.

Among many other achievements, Dr Katina Michael is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has been a Board Member of the Australian Privacy Foundation since 2008.

The Intelligence Squared (IQ2) program was founded in the UK, and is based on traditional Oxford and Cambridge style ‘chamber’ debating. It provides a forum for intelligent discussion a civilized space in which to disagree on issues of public importance.
