Texas introduced two bills for a state-issued gold-backed digital currency that would create currency competition with Federal Reserve notes and provide an alternative if the Federal Reserve implements a central bank digital currency. The bills require the state comptroller to establish a digital currency fully backed by gold, and it would be redeemable into fiat notes or gold. However, the use of gold or silver in daily transactions is not likely until a parallel economy is established.
