Before Schoolboy Q would drop ‘Oxymoron’ and the hit single ‘Man of the Year.’
Before he was arrested at the South By Southwest musical festival for being in possession of some W33D.
Before he would become the fourth member of Black Hippy alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock & Ab – Soul.

As a kid growing up in South Central L.A. he eared the moniker Schoolboy because he was a bit of a keener in school, wearing glasses and scoring a 3.3 in high school. He wasn’t interested in what he was learning so he would cheat – his priority were sports, he played four years of high school varsity baseball and eventually some college football. Throughout this time he was living a double life as a member of 52 Hoover Crips where he sold drugs and prescription pills and battled his own addictions, that is until he got locked up and then decided to make a life for himself in music.

Born Quincy Matthew Hanley on October 26, 1986, in Germany on a military base to a pair of military parents,

Q spent the first three years of his life in Texas before his family eventually settled in Los Angeles.

Growing up on the corner of 51st and Figueroa, just 8 min from the Staples Centre. He himself took an interest in sports young and was playing football as young as 6. He attended 52nd Street Elementary.

Not long after the families move to Los Angeles his parents split and he rebelled turning into a troublemaker, skipping classes, joining a gang, and selling drugs.

He had lost faith in the education system as early as the fifth grade and would cheat his whole way through school. He sure knew how to do that well cause he managed to pull off a 3.3 while at Crenshaw High School.
