257 confirmed Sniper kills is what Josef "Sepp" Allerberger would rack up during WW2, which would make him the Wehrmacht's 2nd most prolific sniper. Born in Austria in 1924 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht at the age of 18 and was trained in the 144th Mountain infantry division to become an MG42 gunner.

Due to sheer luck, he would find a Mosin Nagant with a scope attached to it and put it to good use. It turned out that he was a real natural when it came to marksmanship and proved himself as a valuable soldier. Like so many German war veterans he never really spoke about the horrors of war.

He would die in 2010 peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 86.
