Texas Gov. Abbott to Pardon Army Sgt. for Self-Defense During BLM Protests

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is working to pardon former U.S. Army sergeant, Daniel Perry, who was convicted of murder during the Black Lives Matter protests in Austin in 2020. Perry was found guilty by a jury, despite claiming self-defense, after fatally shooting a BLM protester who was holding an AK-47.
Critics argue that the conviction was politically motivated by progressive Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza, who has been backed by billionaire George Soros. Gov. Abbott aims to expedite Perry's pardon to uphold the robust "stand your ground" laws in Texas and prevent political agendas from obstructing justice.
