"By the Time I Get To Phoenix," written by Jimmy Webb, was Glen Campbell's top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart rising to no. 26 in 1967 (Whitburn, 2013) and his first top ten on the Top Country Singles' chart the same year hitting the no. 2 position (Whitburn, 1994). Campbell won the Grammys for Best Contemporary Male Solo Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male for his rendition of the song (songfacts, 2023). According to songfacts (2023), "like 'MacArthur Park,' 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix' was written by Jimmy Webb about a love affair he had with Suzy Horton, whom he began dating when they were high school students in Colton, California. She caused him considerable anguish when she ran off to Lake Tahoe to work as a dancer; it got worse when she married another guy, inspiring Webb to write 'Worst That Could Happen,' a hit for the Brooklyn Bridge in 1969. That marriage failed, and in 1993, Horton became Suzy Ronstadt when she married Linda Ronstadt's cousin, Bobby.
