When a Woman Criticized Her Husband During My Message

I was teaching on marriage in an interactive setting. In the middle of a message about husbands loving and cherishing their wives, one of the women stood up and began criticizing her husband in front of everyone. There were many good things I could’ve said at that moment: "Let’s talk about this after the meeting," or "Why don’t we take a moment and pray for you both," or "Could we meet together sometime later this week and discuss this in private?" Because I was so caught off-guard by her actions, I did the worst thing imaginable: I simply stood there with my mouth wide open. This allowed her to go on…and on…and on…and on. After that I decided that whenever I taught on marriage, I would make a few points at the beginning.

The consequences of the fall affect every husband and wife. God told Adam, "Because you listened to your wife," and He told Eve, "Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you" (Genesis 3:16-17).
