Shabbos Together Separately 7 Acharay Mos Kedoshim. Preventing Illness
We expound on the article on the Parsha from the Parsha primer (attached).
Then we read the two portions of the Torah reading with practical insights.
The sermon is about the three levels to prevent illness and how to understand and prepare for the impending worldwide mandatory vaccination.
How should we react to tragedy? Aaron’s two sons tragically died. Aaron wasn’t broken. Nor was he callous. He accepted, and, to the best of his human ability, understood what happened and why it happened. He went on to change and grow to a higher level of closeness to HaShem.
Aaron was the emissary to bring the entire Jewish people to the highest possible level of closeness to HaShem. This process involved two parts. First, remove all outside negative influences with the goat to Azazel. Second, to bring their life drive closer to HaShem through the goat as a Korbon (literally means “bring close”). Although there are many aspects of nourishment in the Korbon, there is a special stress on the blood, which is our life drive.
Guidelines are given how to live successfully on this new sanctified level of existence. Primarily, staying strong against outside influences, and preserving our sanctity in relationships.
When one enters a marriage there is an excitement of a new blissful life. However, in reality, this new life requires change in every aspect of existence. Eating, sleeping, speaking, daily activities and routines all must adapt to fit in a new life with your spouse.
Similarly, after the Jewish people were betrothed to be HaShem’s Holy nation (literally Kodesh means ‘set aside’ to be with HaShem), they needed major adaptations in every aspect of existence. Parashat Kedoshim has more Mitsvot (guidelines how to live with HaShem) than any other Parasha, describing in great detail these life adaptions.
Included in these adaptions are the guidelines of having a loving relationship with our fellow Jews. How to think, speak and act towards each other in a positive constructive way. It’s not an individual Jew who is married to HaShem. It’s the entire Jewish people. We must unify as one loving people in order to then have a complete loving relationship with HaShem.
