The Remnant - Part 2

The lesson on April 16, 2023 was part 2 of “The Remnant” study. In this lesson, Wayne recaps what we learned in part 1 which was the initial answer to the question “Are we the Remnant?” and the further extension “Are we the Remnant of scripture?”. We find in the Old Testament prophets, especially Isaiah that the remnant is a part of the faithful of Israel and going forward, appears in the prophecy in the New Testament in Romans and Revelation. Romans identifies two groups when qualifying who is the remnant. 1. A group identified as Of Israel, BUT NOT Israel. The faithful are “the remnant” and 2. Gentiles (not part of the Remnant) but grafted in to the olive tree to promote it to fruitfulness. In Romans, Gentiles appear the most in chapter 15 (ten times). Israel was supposed to be the light to the Gentiles. Remnant only appears in the New Testament is in Matt. 22:6; Rom. 9:27; 11:5; Rev. 11:13; 12:17; 19:21. These are not in the prison epistles! Isaiah, Hosea and Elijah didn’t know about The Mystery! Romans is an Acts epistle and you cannot divorce the context in Romans apart from the Acts. Gentiles are brought in with Israel to promote them to jealousy and receive salvation by faith. In then end we looked at Romans 9:13 “Jacob have I loved but Esau have I hated”. We started looking into the servitude relationship but we will pick that up in part 3.

The scripture reading was from Romans 9:30-33 KJV “30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; 33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
