This video articulates the gist of the following: Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid (1.5 times as powerful as morphine) derived from the alkaloid thebaine. As with other opioids, its original source is the poppy plant, and it has relaxing and pain-relieving effects because it binds to nerve receptors in the brain resulting in the blocking of pain signals, and a general calming and anti-depressing effect. This is an informational overview video about Oxycodone. Oxycodone is a painkiller from the group opioids, like tramadol, and morphine. Common brand names are Dazidox, Eth-Oxydose, Oxaydo, Oxycontin, Oxynorm, Oxydose, Oxyfast, Oxy IR, Roxicodone, Roxicodone Intensol. Oxycodone and acetaminophen is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe pain. Oxycodone and acetaminophen belong to a group of drugs called analgesics, which work by altering the way the brain and nervous system senses pain. Common side effects of oxycodone and acetaminophen include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, mood fluctuations, and itching. Oxycodone and acetaminophen can also cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know oxycodone and acetaminophen affects you. Oxycodone and its extended release version belong to the narcotic family of opioids. Closely related to codeine and hydrocodone, extreme care must be exercised in prescribing oxycodone in combination with muscle relaxants, sleeping pills, anxiety medications and other pain relievers. Surprisingly even the antibiotics erythromycin and clarithromycin or the stomach acid reducer Tagamet generically available as cimetidine may increase the risk of complications. Almost everyone taking this drug suffers from dreadful constipation. It is widely used in medical settings for acute and chronic pain. Recreationally its effects compared to morphine and heroin. The drug is sold either on its own or in combination with acetaminophen (primarily). When acetaminophen is present, the dose must be limited. The general recommendation is to avoid using over 1,000 mg of acetaminophen at once or 3,000 mg per day. An oxycodone overdose can be very dangerous and even deadly, with a notably problematic effect being respiratory depression. It is more risky when combined with other CNS depressants (e.g. benzodiazepines and alcohol.)
