Because of their constant hostility towards GOD’s people, no other nation is threatened with judgment in the OT as often, and as severe as Edom. Yet, GOD tells HIS people to leave Edom alone. GOD would deal with Edom. In HIS timing, and HE did. Although the Edomite spirit is still around to be sure.
In the 2 possibilities of when this book was written, we know that when Israel was attacked, Edom did not come to help. In fact, Edom blocked the road and caught Jewish fugitives, handing them over to the enemy. As a result, they were allowed to loot Jerusalem along with the other invaders.
