Talking to the Dead?

Is it OK to try to speak to the dead? 1 Samuel 28 cast some light on that question, as King Saul goes to seek Samuel after he had died. The craziest part of the story is that Samuel actually shows up after being contacted by a medium, but he gives a prophecy and ultimately condemns Saul to death. This passage and other passages in the Bible lead us to believe that God's word is sufficient for our lives, and contacting the dead is off-limits to believers.
